This is the reason why the Coast Road is closed for three weeks. A new traffic-calming measure is being installed near Collingwood Drive on the edge of Mundesley. We understand that this was requested and paid for by Mundesley Parish Council in order to slow down traffic coming into the village. Trimingham is perhaps in greater need of some such scheme, and this has been much debated by Trimingham Parish Council in recent months, but it’s a frustrating issue because the way the system works favours wealthier villages: as far as we know, the present scheme for determining which roads are made safer depends not on the NCC Highways authority’s recommendation but on who can afford it.
Here’s a view of the second chicane marked out on the road surface, facing towards Mundesley. There are four such chicanes being installed, with a fairly wide gap between each pair.
